House Searches
FAQs
Can my home be searched without a warrant while on parole or probation?
I share an apartment with three guys, but each of us have our own room. The cops had a warrant for one of my them and tossed the whole apartment. They found some pot and some coke and arrested all of us, but none of it was mine. I have no record but the police said we were guilty of "joint possession" because we were all on the lease. Should I take a deal?
The police had a warrant to search my home, but they never knocked or asked to enter or showed the warrant. The first thing I knew was the door shattered and they burst in. Aren't they supposed to announce first? Their report said they knocked first, but they lied. I know the judge will believe the cops, not me? What can I do?
If the police have a warrant to search your house, it's all over, isn't it?
If the cops have a warrant to search my house, can they look anywhere?
Can the cops break down my door to enter my home?
Can police enter a house when the wife gives consent but the husband refuses?
A friend is a suspect in a rash of home burglaries. The cops came to his house and asked to see his collection of guns. They entered without a warrant, took his guns and some other items without his permission. Didn't this search without a warrant violate his rights?
Can the cop look through my garbage?
Can my girlfriend give consent to search my house?
