What is executive clemency and what is the procedure to file for it? |
 |
| It is the constitutional power of the Governor to grant a commutation of sentence or a pardon following criminal conviction or juvenile adjudication. A pardon forgives an individual for the crime. A commutation is a reduction in sentence for persons currently incarcerated, and can be granted for an entire sentence or any part of it. Decision-making is entirely in the hands of the Governor, assisted by the Governor's Board for Executive Clemency. The procedure is governed by state rules. |
