What are the benefits of medical marijuana? For what conditions is medicinal marijuana used as a treatment in Michigan?

Medical marijuana has been shown to help improve numerous medical problems including pain, appetite loss, nausea, vomiting, anxiety, spasticity, and weight loss. The Michigan Medical Marijuana Act specifically lists the following as “debilitating medical conditions” that qualify patients for access to medical marijuana: cancer, glaucoma, AIDS or HIV-positive, hepatitis C, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Crohn’s disease, Alzheimer’s, nail patella, epilepsy, cachexia or wasting syndrome, multiple sclerosis, severe and chronic pain, severe nausea, seizures, and severe and persistent muscle spasms. If your particular medical ailment is not specifically listed under the act, you can still petition the Michigan Department of Community Health for consideration for a medicinal marihuana (marijuana) registry identification card.
